Mesothelioma has proven to be one of the most difficult cancers to treat. Because there is currently no cure for mesothelioma, patients with the disease have an average survival time of eight to thirteen months post diagnosis. Although treatments are available, they are typically administered to ease the symptoms of patients and have not proved successful in defeating the cancer.
Conventional therapies, such as surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy are available treatment options. Patients and their doctors may also consider combining therapies for more effective treatment.
As when dealing with most forms of cancer, the treatment options available to an individual depend upon which stage his or her mesolthelioma has reached.
